I was solving this problem with a ceramic heat battery called Brick. It’s main shortcoming is added volume and mass to the equipment and as a result it is a viable solution for users that do not care about the equipment weight as much. Well One is a solution to the same problem but integrated into an existing piece of equipment everyone already carries outdoors – a water bottle.
This is a video of 2015 prototype testing that shows the process of heating up the bottle in campfire. The bottle is designed in a way that allows you to put it in the fire with a closed cap avoiding spilling the water on uneven surfaces. After heated, the bottle is inserted into an insulating aerogel sleeve that slowly lets the heat transfer to the users body and sleeping bag over the night.
Research has shown that compared to other parts of body, feet temperature has the biggest impact on general temperature comfort of humans.
