There is more than 285 million visually impaired people in the world that can’t use watches or phones to track their performance when doing sports. We decided to tackle this problem in a Suunto student contest called “The future of wearable electronics”.
Vital functions monitoring, bone conduction speaker, gesture control and a contact microphone enabled us to create a wearable device that efficiently communicates performance information to users. It also enables them to communicate with their training partners. All of that without limiting the hearing which is the most relied on sense for the blind.
Suunto Sensum doesn’t only help track the athletes performance. It provides users with a variety of information and empowers them in all kinds of activities. From heart rate and calories, a stopwatch and a clock all the way to calls, information about the environment, even navigation. The device turns out to be useful for anyone visually impaired.
